A handsome Gothic fire surround made using old, reclaimed, pitch pine. The surround has a very nice appearance with carved Gothic trefoil detail in each corner of the crossbar. The legs of the surround and bottom edge of the crossbar have chamfered detailing. The surround is solid and heavy and has a thick mantel. Please note there is a join seen on the side of the legs where pine has been added to add depth to the legs. The mantel and back of the legs are a newer pine and therefore have colour variation. The pine has had a dark wax or varnished finish that highlights the interesting wood grain. Please note the finish has some fading and colour variation. The surround is of a good size, ideal for a living or dining room and would look fantastic paired with a fire insert. The fire surround is in good solid condition but has some slight signs of natural age and wear, as expected of reclaimed wood. There is a thin natural surface crack through a wood knot under the mantel and there is a surface split through the right hand trefoil design and on the mantel top, plus some wood knot splits. The cross bar has some small holes and a join with some very slight marks. One hole is filled along the crossbar. The back edge of the right hand leg has a slight knock and the other leg has a slight surface split to the top. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround has a very nice Gothic appearance that would suit both period and modern homes.
