A very elegant, reclaimed, tall Art Nouveau cast iron fire surround likely to date to C.1900. The surround is of a tall size and has an unusual and attractive design with an interestingly shaped top. The crossbar has a large design featuring ribbons, swags and a large oval medallion. The crossbar shoulders have cut-outs and the top of the legs are in a column style with ball detailing. The ball detailing is also featured as a border around the fire opening. The mantel is not as wide as the body of the fire which is an unusual and interesting design feature. The iron has been blacked and polished and the surround has a good finish. The fire surround is of size suitable for a living or dining room and it could be used to surround a wood burner or fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some small signs of age and wear. The surround has some small knocks and scratches from use, especially to the mantel edges. There are some casting marks around the design. There is a small knock to the inside edge of the right hand foot. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is a very fine example of Art Nouveau design and craftsmanship and it would make a stunning period item for a home.
