A reclaimed, ornate, tall carved pine fire surround. The surround is likely to date to the early half of the 20th Century and is a reproduction of traditional designs of the Victorian period. The fire surround has a very attractive appearance, with a large shell design, flowers and acanthus leaves that are in relief along the crossbar. There are decorative corbels under the mantel, flowers that run down the legs and a pretty border along the mantel front and side edges. The fire opening is surrounded by a carved fan style border. The pine has had a wax finish applied at some point. The fire surround could be paired with a cast iron insert or fire basket or used for decorative purposes. The fire opening has rebated inner edges (see last picture) for accommodating slate or marble fire slips. Please contact us should you require any advice about this. The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of use, as expected. There are some small knocks, wood knots and chips to the pine, including the mantel edges and to the decorative pieces. The pine has some scratches and marks, especially to the feet. Some of the fan designs have a slightly deeper gap around their outer edges. There are some thin surface cracks that do not affect the structural integrity of the surround. The outer sides of the legs have some white marks. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very ornate look and is ideal for a period home, making a fantastic addition to a fireplace.
