An elegant, reclaimed, hand carved antique mahogany fire surround, likely to date to C.1910-1920. The fire surround is well made and has an ornate design with carved detailing in the centre of the crossbar, featuring leaves and reeding. The ends of the crossbar have corbels and below these is a decorative border that runs down the legs, in relief. The mahogany has has a stain or varnished finish but there are some scruffs, scratches and discolouration and you may wish to sand and refinish the surround to suit. The back of the fire surround has a fixing hook attached to each leg but these can be removed by purchaser if required.
The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The surround has some knocks and chips, especially to the mantel edges. The sides and insides of the legs have some indentations and paint residue left from where it was previously fitted. The mantel has some surface splits. The backs of the legs have some splinters. The metal fixing hooks have surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround has a very nice decorative appearance and would be ideal for adding period character to a fireplace.
