A very large and elegant, reclaimed, painted pine Edwardian fire surround. The surround has an ornate appearance, traditional to the Edwardian era, with ionic column style detail on the legs with fluting. There are decorative pieces on the crossbar. The fire surround has a tall mirrored section that is designed to sit on top of the thin mantel, above the crossbar. The mirrored top has a classic style design with arched panels and decorative sections and below this is a shelf with corbels and a rectangular mirror. The thin mantel has a groove in it to rest the mirrored section on. The fire surround is sold with the mirrored top piece but it is separate and you do not have add it to the surround if would prefer not to. If you are planning on using the surround without the top piece (photographed without in picture 2) then you may wish to have a larger mantel added to the thin mantel that the surround currently has, to make it of a more standard size. We can add a larger mantel for an extra charge, if required. Please contact us for details and a quote.
The surround is in solid condition but there are some signs of age and use, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The pine has some knocks, chips and surface splits. The paint has some chipping and there are some stains and marks and you may wish to sand and re-paint the surround to suit. The sides of the fire surround have some indentations and paint missing. The decorative beading around the fire opening has dropped or moved slightly in places, leaving a small gap. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a real statement piece for a home or business and is a fantastic example of Edwardian design.
