A reclaimed, decorative, elegant Victorian carved and gesso pine fire surround. The surround has a very attractive appearance, typical of the era, with ionic column style legs with hand carved column tops. The ends of the crossbar have gesso flower roundels. The mantel edges have carved grooves that run around the front and sides. There is egg and dart gesso detailing under the mantel. The crossbar originally had further gesso detailing but this is no longer present and there are some shadows and small holes where it used to sit. The fire surround could be paired with a cast iron insert or fire basket or used for decorative purposes.
The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The pine has some knocks and chips. There is some damage to a corner piece of egg and dart. The pine has scratches and marks, especially to the mantel. The sides of the feet have some cut-outs and paint residue from where it fitted next to skirting board. There are some filled wood knots. The mantel edges have some knocks. Some wood filler and residue paint can be seen. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very ornate look and is a fine example of Victorian design, making it a fantastic addition to a fireplace.
