Code: FS0341
Dimensions:
A very elegant reclaimed cast iron fire surround with Art Nouveau detail. The surround has a moulded border that runs up the legs and along the crossbar, forming an arch in the centre. Under the arch is a large panel with a beautiful tulip and leaves in the Art Nouveau style. There is repeating detail under the mantel on the barrelled sections. The back of the mantel has two fixing lugs for sinking into the wall and a small tab at the base of each foot that is designed to fit into the hearth. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The back of the surround has a registered design number believed to be RD367893, dating it to 1900. The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some light repaired damage, as expected. The fixing lugs on either side of the surround, under the mantel, were broken and quality repairs have been carried out to both sides and metal tabs added for fixings. The metal plates used to repair the surround can be seen on the back of the fire but the repairs are only very slightly visible from the front. The iron has some small knocks, casting marks and pitting. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a lovely example of Art Nouveau design and its elegant appearance would make a fantastic feature for a fireplace.
