Code: FS0343
Dimensions:
A very elegant reclaimed cast iron fire surround, likely to date to C.1900. The large surround has a fine design, typical of the era, with delicate scrolling leaves in the centre and flower swags on either side. There are large flowers under the mantel with fluting in-between. There is a decorative border under the mantel. The legs have fluting and floral designs. The surround has two lugs on the outer edge of each leg for fixings, for attaching the surround to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish.
The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The iron has some small knocks, scratches and there are some casting marks and pitting. The left hand side under the mantel has a crack but it is stable and there is no crack in the mantel top. The crack can only be seen when looking at it closely or with a torch (please see the last picture for details). The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a fine example of period design and it would make a fantastic feature for a home.
