Code: FS0345
Dimensions:
An elegant reclaimed Art Nouveau cast iron fire surround in the original black paint, likely to date to C.1900-1910. The surround has a pretty design with tulips and scrolling leaves along the crossbar, in the typical Art Nouveau style. The mantel has a moulded edge and there is a simple border around the fire opening. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixing the surround to the wall.
The fire surround is in solid antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The original paint has some chipping, flaking and losses, especially to the back edge of the mantel. The sides of the fire surround have white paint on them and some surface rust. Some surface rust is visible. You may wish to strip and re-finish the surround to suit. There are some small knocks to the iron. The back of the surround has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The surround is a lovely example of Art Nouveau design and it would make a fantastic period feature for a home.
