Code: FS0356
Dimensions:
A very elegant, large, reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the late Victorian period. The fire surround has a classic and elegant design, with delicate leaves on each edge of the shaped crossbar and there is a plain panel with mouldings around it in the centre. There is an egg and dart border under the mantel and a moulded border around the opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The back of the fire surround has a registered design dating number, RD318958, dating the surround to 1898.
The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some light damage. The legs each have a fixing lug and there is a fixing lug on the right hand side, under the mantel, when looking at the surround but the lug on the opposite side has been broken off and a metal fixing tab has been attached, using fixing screws, so the surround can be attached to the wall. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The back of the surround has surface rust and plaster residue. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an impressive size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace.
