Code: FS0379
Dimensions:
A very large reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the late Victorian period. The surround is of the ideal size for a reception room and has an interesting period design with a shelf with column detail, creating three sections with arched tops and there is panel detailing at each end of the crossbar. The mantel has moulded detailing and there is dentil moulding under the mantel. The surround has fluting on the inner edges of the legs. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixing the surround to the wall and there is a small tab at the base of each foot, designed to be fitted into the hearth. The back of the surround has a registered design number, RD364011, dating it to 1900.
The surround is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage. The surround has some repaired damage to the left and right hand side, under the mantel, where there are some filled cracks. The surround is quite stable but please note the cracks do not have stabilising brackets added to them. The filled cracks can be seen when looking closely at the surround, see the last three pictures showing the cracks front the front and one crack from the back. The iron has some scratches and there are some casting marks and pitting. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an impressive size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a fine example of late Victorian design and it would make a fantastic statement piece for a home.
