An elegant reclaimed pine and gesso fire surround with large overmantel mirror. The surround is likely to date to C.1900 and has a design typical of the era with gesso swags, a shell and acanthus leaves along the crossbar. The legs have fantastic Corinthian columns in relief with decorative gesso leaves and flowers at the top and acanthus leaves at the base. The fire surround comes with a very large overmantel mirror with pine mantel, columns and gesso detailing, see picture 2 for the surround with the mirror above it. The overmantel mirror is included with the surround but you could use the surround without it if you prefer. The pine has a dark varnish or brown paint finish but the finish has some scratches and losses and you may wish to sand and re-finish it to suit.
The surround has some signs of age and some damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There is some damage to one of the column bases with some of the gesso acanthus leaves missing and there is a knock to the outside edge of one leg. One column has had a small repair. There is some missing beading on the sides of the surround, under the mantel. There are some scratches, splits and knocks and there is some wear and losses to the finish. There are some small holes and some screws in the sides of the surround. The crossbar has some damage where there is a split and the wood is breaking away. The feet have scuffs. The overmantel mirror has some discolouration to the glass. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size, ideal for a larger reception room, and it has a very nice period appearance and would make a good feature for a room.
