A very pretty reclaimed carved pine fire surround. The surround dates to the Victorian period and the original wattle and daub marks can be seen on the inner edges of the legs. The fire surround has a very ornate appearance, typical of the era, with flowers overflowing from a basket in the centre of the crossbar and elegant acanthus leaves on each side, in relief. There is a decorative border under the mantel and a flower and leaf repeating border around the fire opening. The mantel side and front edges have an ornate carved flower pattern. The pine has been sanded to bare wood and is ready for purchaser to add a finish to suit. The fire surround could be paired with a cast iron insert, a fire basket or used for decorative purposes.
The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of use, as expected. There are some small holes, marks, small splinters and scratches to the pine. The right hand side edge of the mantel (when looking at the surround) has had a patch repair but please note the joins can be seen. The back edge of the mantel has some knocks and damage. There are some wood knot cracks and surface splits in the wood. There is some slight separation where the decorative moulding joints meet, around the fire opening. The decorative carvings had had gold paint applied to them which has now been removed but there might be some slight residue left. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a very fine example of Victorian design and it will make a very nice feature for a fireplace.
