A very nice, original, tall reclaimed cast iron range / fire surround likely to date to 1890-1900. The surround has an elegant and ornate appearance with leaves and acorns in the centre of the crossbar, panel detailing on either side and medallions with flowers and scrolls on each end. The legs have wheat and fruit at the top and fluting that runs down each one. There is further decorative detail at the base of the legs. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The surround is bolted together so it can be dismantled for transit. The surround is very tall with high feet. You could have the feet cut by approximately 9-10cm max to reduce the height of the surround, should you require it.
The surround is in very good antique condition with some signs of age and some repairs, as expected. The back of the mantel has a plate where is has been repaired due to damage (see last 2 pictures). The surround has some deep line casting marks along the cross bar but this does not affect the stability of the surround. The crossbar has had a repair which can be seen on the left hand side of the crossbar. The inside edge of the legs have notches out of them. The iron has some small knocks, marks and pitting. The back has surface rust and the mantel has new screws and bolts. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround has a very elegant period design and it could be used to surround a range, fireplace or perhaps a wood burner. The surround is a fantastic period find and it would make a wonderful feature in a home.
