A very pretty reclaimed antique carved pine fire surround. The surround is likely to date to the late Victorian period and has a very ornate appearance, typical of the era, with acanthus leaves and flowers along the crossbar and there is an egg and dart style border above this. There is a repeating flower border around the fire opening and there is a decorative border around the bottom part of the mantel. The fire opening is shaped and wider at the top and there is a small rebate on the inside of the legs and crossbar and you could therefore add slate slips to the surround if desired. The pine has been hand sanded.
The surround is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The pine has some small knocks and chips and there are some surface splits, including a larger split that can been seen on the inside of one leg but the surround is solid and stable. The pine has some colour variation and some scuffs. One of the joins where the decorative mouldings meet, under the mantel, has separated slightly. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a very fine example of period design and it will make a very nice feature for a fireplace.
