Code: FS0402
Dimensions:
A large reclaimed, mahogany, fire surround dating to C.1935. The fire surround has a handsome and traditional appearance with raised panels on each end of the crossbar and three shaped corbels that sit under the mantel. The opening has traditional mouldings around it and the legs have fluted detailing. The mahogany has a rich colour and the wood appears to have had a varnished finish. The surround has a large metal fixings bar on each side of the crossbar but they have tarnish and one is slightly out of shape and you may wish to replace them.
The surround is in solid reclaimed condition with some signs of age, as expected. The crossbar has some large splits, seen on both sides, but it is stable. The corbels have some cut outs on the inner edges. The mahogany has some scratches, knocks and marks and the feet have some scuffs. The side edges of the feet have some shadows or marks left from where it was fitted in place previously. There is a long crack along the mantel but it is stable. The finish has some knocks. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size and you could pair it with a fire basket, cast iron insert or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire surround will make an elegant addition to a fireplace.
