A very large reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian era. PLEASE NOTE: The fire basket pictured with the surround is NOT INCLUDED in the listing and is SOLD SEPERATELY. The surround is of an impressive size and has a lovely period appearance with an Adam style design with large urns in each corner of the crossbar and bluebell swags, a central flower medallion and ribbons along the crossbar. The legs have further Adam style designs with urns and bluebells. There is dentil moulding under the mantel. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel and one on the outside of each leg, for fixings, for attaching the fire surround to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The back of the surround has a registered dating number, which appears to be RD501346 but it has some rust, dating it to 1907.
The surround is in good solid antique condition with some signs of age, as expected. The iron has some small knocks, some casting marks, especially along the mantel edges and some pitting. The base edge of the feet have some small chips. The back of the surround has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is an elegant and well made period piece and it would make a stunning feature for a fireplace.
