Code: FS0442
Dimensions:
A large, elegant, reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to C.1900. The surround is of the ideal size for a reception room and has a classic period design with heavy mouldings that run down the legs and around the fire opening. The centre of the crossbar has a shaped panel with fluted detailing, leaves and scrolls. The mantel has nicely shaped front corners. The cast iron has been blacked and polished. The fire surround has a fixing lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixings for attaching the surround to the wall.
The surround is in good solid antique condition with some signs of age as expected. The iron has some knocks, scratches, casting marks and pitting. There is some streaking to the finish in places and slight colour variation. The back has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround is a nice example of period design and it would add great character to a fireplace.
