A reclaimed original carved painted pine fire surround dating to the early to mid Victorian era. The fire surround has a very fine appearance, typical of the era, with an ornate swag and bows in the centre of the crossbar, surrounded by an egg and dart carved border that continues down the nicely shaped legs. The mantel side and front edges have a repeating leaf border and there is a smaller leaf border under the mantel. The pine has been painted white but the paint does have marks, cracks and flaking. The inner edge of the fire opening does have a rebate for you to add slate or marble slips should you wish (NOT INCLUDED) but please note there are no securing tabs. There are some metal tabs for fixings to attach the surround to the wall, on the legs, but you may wish to replace these as they are tarnished and worn.
The surround is sold as seen and in need of some restoration. The legs joints are damaged and loose and therefore the legs move and are not stable. There is cracking and some damage at the joints. You will need to do some restoration to the joints to make the legs stable. Care is needed when moving the surround. There is a surface crack along the crossbar. The pine has some knocks and chips. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a rare original find and once restored it will make a stunning period addition to a fireplace.
