Code: FT0040
Dimensions:
A stunning and very rare reclaimed brass fire trim on a cast iron back, dating to C.1860-1880. The trim is of a fine quality and of an ornate and very pretty period design with decorative repeating borders with leaves around the outer edges and fluting and flowers in the centre and a bead border around the inner edges. There are very nice semi-circular flowers in each of the top corners of the inner edges. The brass has been left as found with character patina and tarnish which accentuates the decorative design features. The brass face has been applied on to a cast iron back and therefore it is very heavy and solidly made. The trim has some signs of age that add to the charm and character of the fire trim. The brass has patina and tarnish. There are some scratches and scuffs, especially to the feet. There are some small holes and pitting. The cast iron has surface rust and there is some slight damage to the inner edges of the cast iron but it does not affect the structural integrity of the trim. There is some residue concrete or similar on the back. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire trim is a very rare find as most trims are solely cast iron and the brass face gives the trim a fantastic look. The trim could surround a fireplace or a wood burner and it would make a very special feature for a fireplace.
Width of brass face 117.3cm
Height of brass face 96cm
Please note the cast iron is slightly stepped at the back and the measurements will be very slightly less on the back face if measuring the stepped section.
