A beautiful Victorian cast iron fire surround with an unusual and very attractive mantel made of reclaimed chestnut. The fire has a swag and bow design under the mantel, traditional to the Victorian era. The surround has been stripped, burnished and lacquered and has an attractive silvery finish. The fire has the original fixing lugs present. The fire lost its original mantel and it has been replaced with a lovely, reclaimed chestnut mantel that has been oiled and has a rich colour and attractive grain. The surround could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The surround has an RD number which is very difficult to read but we believe it starts with RD458 and has 5 numbers, therefore dating the fire to 1886. The fire is antique and has some slight signs of wear. The burnished iron has some tarnish and very small patches of surface rust. The mantel is reclaimed and has a rustic appearance. The wood has some character marks, scratches and grooves. There is surface rust to the back of the fire. Please see pictures for details. The fire surround has beautiful detailing and a classic design. The addition of the chestnut mantel gives the fire great interest and style and is a highly desirable item for both period and modern homes.
