Code: FS0322
Dimensions:
A very large and handsome, reclaimed, Edwardian painted pine fire surround. The surround has a very ornate appearance and its substantial size makes it a very desirable item. The crossbar has a "shelf" design with thin columns and a carved wave design below the mantel. There is hand carved egg and dart detailing around the mantel front and side edges. There are large corbels on each side, under the mantel, with gesso leaves and the legs have panel designs, some with gesso acanthus leaves. The fire surround has had a "shabby chic" paint effect applied to it but you could sand and re-paint the surround to suit.
The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear. The left hand side of the mantel has had a repair and the join can be seen but it is stable and solid. The pine has some chips, scratches and knocks and there are some chips and marks to the paint. There are some cracks to the gesso detailing. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround could be paired with a cast iron fire insert or fire basket and is a very handsome example of period design and it would make a striking feature for a home.
