A very old, reclaimed, antique carved oak pelmet. The pelmet has an intricate hand carved design with rectangular panels and floral guilloche. The top of the pelmet has dentil moulding. The pelmet has been carved in a manor that suggests it could date to the 17th or early 18th century, as later carvings have a crisper finish, but we do not have an exact date for the pelmet. The oak has a waxed finish and has a deep colour. The pelmet could be paired with a curtain, perhaps to add an elegant touch above a bed or doorway, or displayed as a decorative wood carving. The pelmet does have some signs of its considerable age but is in useable condition. There are some cracks and splits to the oak but the pelmet is solid and stable. One end has some damage and there are some thin surface splits. There are some holes and marks visible. The top of the pelmet has some nails that have not been removed, an extra piece of wood is attached at one side and some slight damage and knocks. The surface of the wood has signs of age. Please see pictures for details. The pelmet is a lovely example of antique hand carving and its elegant design and characterful appearance would make it a fantastic décor piece for a home.
