SOLD

A pair of original Victorian brass church offertory gates. The petite gates have an ornate design from the Arts and Crafts era and feature elaborate scrolls, leaves and flowers and a large Gothic style finial. The gates each have a foot at the base of the outer edges that sit slightly lower than the body of the gates. The brass gates have been painted black but the brass can be seen in many areas where the paint has chipped and flaked. Purchaser could strip the paint and polish the brass if preferred. The pretty gates are very heavy and well made and could be used for a number of decorative projects. The gates have a rebated inner edge and a small handle on one side. The gates have no hinges but there is a space at the top of each outer edge where a hinge or similar would have been attached. The gates are in good reclaimed condition with some signs of wear and use commensurate with age. The brass has been painted black and the paint has chipping and flaking. The gates have some knocks, chips, tarnish and signs of use that add to their antique charm. Please see pictures for condition details. The gates are an unusual find and are a fantastic example of Victorian / Arts and Crafts design. The gates are versatile and well made and would make a great feature in a home.
