A large, reclaimed, antique dough trough / dough bowl. The dough trough is a fantastic antique item that is approximately 150 years old. The dough trough is a beautiful piece with a deeply curved shape, with handles at each end and it would make a wonderful interior décor feature for a home or shop. Troughs were made from a single tree trunk, cut in half and hollowed out. Dough troughs such as this were made from wood as it was found that the wood kept the heat from the yeast in and the high sides would protect the dough from drafts. The wood has been polished and has a very nice shine, with a lovely grain and colour. The dough trough could make a great shop display or interesting interior item and it could be placed on a stand. The dough trough is of a considerable age and therefore has character signs of wear. There are several knocks, chips and large notches in the wood. The handle ends have knocks and wear. The trough edges have some surface splits but it is stable and solid. There is evidence of woodworm that is now treated. There are some scratches, marks and colour variation.
