A very handsome, reclaimed, Arts and Crafts oak front door and frame. The door is extremely heavy, solid and well made and we believe it to date to C.1920. The door has a very imposing appearance with Arts and Crafts styling and comprises of thick oak planks with ledge and brace detailing on the inside face. The exterior face of the door has ridged detailing and traditional style iron door straps, handle and door knocker. The inside face of the door has bolts and a chain. The door has pin type hinges that pivot when opened. The door has a simple, old fashioned, slim letter box slot and wooden letter plate. The letter plate is currently unattached but can be added to the inside face of the door. Please contact should you require any advise about the letter plate. The oak has had a wax or varnish at some point but this has faded. Purchaser will need to sand and finish the door to suit, with perhaps a wax or varnish suited to exterior use. The door is set into a very solid oak frame and the external face of the frame has shaped inside edges near the top. The door is in good condition with some signs of age and slight damage, as expected of reclaimed items. There are some scratches, knocks and splinters to the door and frame. The base of the door has some light damage with scuffs and splinters and some further damage to one side where some wood has broken away from the weather strip. The small door viewing hole is damaged and you cannot see through it anymore. The simple letterbox plate cover is unattached. The oak has some discolouration and there is residue paint or similar round the edge of the frame. The door hardware has some tarnish and some knocks to the paint. Please see pictures for condition details. The door is an unusual find due to its size and fantastic appearance. The door is a lovely example of Arts and Crafts design and would be a fantastic show piece for the home.
