A handsome, reclaimed, oak plank stable door and frame. The door is heavy and well made with mortise and tenon joints at each level. The door and frame date to C.1890 and have a traditional, Gothic style appearance. The door comprises of two opening sections with a rebated edge so they fit nicely together and the outside face has panels with plank detailing. The inside face of the door has a brace construction. The door retains its original, Gothic, door furniture, including a knocker letter plate and latches for securing the two parts of the door. The door does have a lock but no key, we could supply a new lock barrel and keys for an extra £20. The frame has chamfered detailing on the front face and we have added a new hardwood sill.
The door is a reclaimed item and does have some signs of wear and damage and we suggest it is best suited to a sheltered, protected, position. The door has had some woodworm, leaving some small holes, but we believe it is now dead. The door has some damage and we can offer to repair damage and or provide solutions to protect the door from further damage, for an extra charge. The base crossbar has some losses to the wood (please see picture 7) but it is strong. We can patch repair the wood losses for an extra £25. The lower section of the door has some damage to the top of the planks where they have kicked out slightly and have some splits (last picture). We recommend a drip bar or timber slope is added to come over the kicked out section to protect it from further damage. We can fit this for an extra £36. The drip bar at the bottom of the door has some softness and wear and this can be replaced for £24. Please let us know if you require any of the extra services upon purchaser or contact us for further information. There are some marks and scratches to the paintwork and varnish and purchaser may wish to sand and re-finish the door to suit. There is some slight tarnish to the door furniture. Please see pictures for condition details.
The door is a characterful item and has been well made, making it a great Gothic style item for the home.
