Dimensions:
A highly sought-after polished brass and iron fire register / firegrate by Thomas Elsley, C1900. The elegant firegrate has an ornate design with fluted fretwork and fine engraving on the wings featuring acanthus leaves and a raised flower on either side. The register has four brass urn finials and the legs have a fluted design and leaf detail. The fire register has three shaped front bars and a grill. There is an arch topped cast iron fire back with the makers name on the back. The firegrate is in good antique condition with some signs of use, commensurate with age. The cast iron fire back has a crack at the top but it is stable. The brass has been polished but there are some small areas of tarnish, as expected. The iron and brass have some small scratches and marks. Please see pictures for condition details. The firegrate is a fine example for collectors of Thomas Elsley fires or to make a fantastic feature in a home fireplace and it is a desirable and elegant item.
