A very pretty, original, Georgian hob grate fire insert. The hob grate has an ornate design with arched fire opening and triangular sections with decorative borders in the top corners. The inner legs have panel detailing and fluting. The fire has retained its front bars with decorative flowers and leaves at the base. The hob grate has the traditional warming plates on either side of the fire opening. Above the fire opening is a decorative back piece with acanthus leaves and a pretty border. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The hob grate is in solid condition but has had some repairs to damage and some signs of age, as expected. There is light seen at the base of the decorative back piece of the fire due to cracking (see last picture) and this section was damaged and has now been screwed in place and has had repairs, however the crack will be much less noticeable when in-situ (see picture 2). The top plate is a metal replacement. There is a chip out of the fire cheek, next to the plain fire back within the opening, on the right hand side. The plain back piece within the opening is a metal replacement. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The hob grate is a wonderful example of Georgian design and is of a nice size for a reception room or larger bedroom. The hob grate is the perfect item for adding period character to a fireplace.
