A very pretty, original, reclaimed mid-Victorian fire insert. The fire insert has an ornate design with an arched fire opening with a decorative border around the top featuring twist design with acanthus leaves. The design is repeated inside the fire opening and on the bottom front bar. The fire insert has a simple top plate and there are traditional warming plates for cups or similar at the top of the grill, on either side. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The fire insert has a kite dating mark on the back. The kite letters and numbers tell us that the fire insert was made on 4th April 1868.

The hob grate is in solid condition but has had some damage and signs of age, as expected. The right hand leg has a crack at the bottom but the leg is stable (please see last picture). There are some knocks and scratches to the iron. The iron has some pitting, roughness and casting marks. The back of the insert has surface rust. The grill is a replacement and it has been secured in place using modern metal fixing tabs, seen on the back face of the fire. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire insert is a very pretty example of Victorian design and is of a nice size for a bedroom. The insert is the perfect item for adding period character to a fireplace.
