A large, elegant, reclaimed painted pine and gesso Victorian fire surround C.1890s. The surround has a graceful appearance with gesso detailing in the Adam style, popular during this period. The crossbar has swags and urns, there is a flower on each side, under the mantel. The mantel front and side edges have a decorative repeating border. There are two corbels under the mantel, one on either side, with pretty detailing. The fire surround is of a good size for a living or dining room, ideal for pairing with a fire inset. The pine has been heavily painted and is currently white but there are knocks, cracks, stains and marks to the paint and you may wish to strip and re-finish the surround to suit. The surround has small metal fixing tabs, one on either side of the legs at the top and at the back of the mantel.

The fire surround is in solid reclaimed condition with some signs of age and some damage, as expected. The feet are missing some paint. The left hand leg, when looking at the surround, has a crack (please see picture 7). The feet have had thin pine blocks added to perhaps cover where the outer part of the feet were originally cut to fit in to position. The pine has some knocks and chips. The fixing tabs have tarnish. Please see pictures for condition details. The surround is a fine example of Victorian design and has a very nice elegant look, making it a wonderful feature for a fireplace.
