| A very pretty, decorative, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is of a fantastic size, ideal for both bedroom or living room and has a solid mantel and rectangular fire opening. The item is heavily decorated with a stunning fan detail on the crossbar, framed by swag border. The legs have a plain border and are topped with corbels featuring pears and leaves. The fire opening has a further border with flowers and fine detailing. The shaped front bars are not original to the fire but suit it well and are of the period. The fire has a lacquered finish giving the iron an attractive burnished, silvery effect. The fire has an RD number on the back that is slightly eroded. The RD number starts with 12, we belive, which would date the fire to 1889. The fire is in very good antique condition. The fixing lugs to the sides are present and intact. The fire brick is very solid with some slight signs of use. The fire does have small holes where ther original front bars fitted to the fire, please see pictures for details. The fire has some light casting marks and scratches. The mantel has been repaired and new bolts can be seen under the mantel and the screw heads on the top of the mantel. There is some surface rust to the back edge of the mantel and some slight knocks. The back has some surface rust as expected. The fire is a beautiful example of Victorian design and the detail is of a fine quality. A solid, useable and very stylish fire, ideal for a period property.
