A large rare original Victorian cast iron fire / woodburner surround

SOLD

Code: FS0036

Dimensions:

W: 108cm (42.5")H: 131cm (51.6")

A very large, original Victorian, cast iron fire surround with a beautiful design. A fire of this size is rare and impressive and has been reclaimed from a mansion. The fire surround would be ideal for a sitting room and can be used to surround a wood burner. The surround has fine casting with an Adam style, Neo-Georgian, design with swags and urns. The fire has decorative mouldings around the fire opening and detailing to the feet. The fire has both fixing lugs on either side of the mantel and the iron has been blacked and polished, giving an attractive finish. The fire can be prepared for spray paint if preferred however. For an extra charge the fire can be stripped and painted. Please contact us for a quote if you would prefer a painted finish. The surround is antique and therefore has some signs of use and wear consistent with age but it is in very good, sturdy condition. There are some light signs of wear, with some knocks and casting marks to the mantel edge. Some scratches and marks can be seen. The inner edge of the fire opening will not sit flush with the wall and there will be a gap. The gap will need to be filled with slate or brick by purchaser when installing the fire. The back has surface rust as expected. Please see pictures for details. The fire has a classic and attractive Victorian design that would suit most interiors. A beautiful and rare antique fire surround.
