Code: FT0013

Dimensions:

W: 77.5cm (30.5")H: 96.5cm (38")

A very pretty, petite, Victorian cast iron fire front made by the renowned foundry in Falkirk, and with an attractive oak mantel. The fire front is of an ideal size for a bedroom or small reception room. The body of the fire has a pretty design, typical of the era, with ivy leaves, flowers and rope borders around the arched opening. The iron has been burnished and lacquered giving a lovely silvery finish. The fire has the original fixing lugs on either side that allow the fire to be secured to the wall. The fire front is designed to be paired with a fire basket and sits around the fire opening or is ideal for decorative use in a bedroom. The back of the fire has Falkirk stamped in to it and an RD number, RD22323, dating the fire to 1885. The original mantel for the fire was damaged and has been replaced with a beautiful oak mantel that has been oiled to give a beautiful finish. The oak has an attractive grain and is a solid and quality piece of timber. The pairing of cast iron with oak gives the fire a unique and interesting look that would fit with period, country or rustic properties. The fire is antique and therefore has some slight signs of age and wear. The front of the fire has some very small scratches and marks and some very slight patches of surface rust to the base of the feet. The mantel has some natural wood marks and splits. The back has surface rust as expected. One side of the fire front has some deep casting marks. The fire front is a beautiful item that would add great character to a home and paired with a fire basket would complete a hearth.
