M1277 A SET OF 14 DECORATIVE LATE VICTORIAN PAINTED FIRE TILES

A set of 14 ornate Victorian fire tiles. The tiles are painted, have a textured finish and feature a large yellow flower, surrounded by border designs. The colour of the tiles is clear and unfaded and the design is of a very fine quality. The tiles were originally set into a cast iron fire, surrounding the fire opening and they can be used for this purpose again. A fire usually requires 10 tiles and therefore the set included spares. The tiles would also make a fantastic sink splashback or other interior project. The tiles are antique and do have some signs of wear and repaired damage. The tile glaze has some crazing and cracking. There are some light smoke marks and concrete residue on the back. The front of the tiles have some chips and knocks, especially to the edges. Some very slight chips to the paint. Two tiles have large repaired breaks to one corner, please see pictures for details. The repaired tiles are now glued and solid. The tiles have fantastic character and a very pretty design, and are very desirable items.
