An interesting working agricultural chaff cutter. The cutter, dating to approximately 1890-1900, is made of cast iron with a wooden chaff box. The machine is designed to cut straw or hay in to smaller pieces for feeding to animals. The cast iron components are all working and the wheel and cogs are free flowing. Please note the photograph shows the blade with a stick wedged between it and the cutter for safety and there is a padlock and chain, that will be provided with the cutter, to stop the wheel turning to ensure children do not hurt themselves. Please make sure safety measures are carried out to ensure no injuries occur. The cutter is antique and therefore has some signs of wear and natural aging. The metal has surface rust and natural patina, giving a very rustic appearance. The wooden chaff box has some splits, chips and knocks. The chaff cutter is a very interesting item that would be ideal for display in a garden as an unusual décor piece.
