A stunning and rare, large, early Victorian brass fire insert / surround for pairing with a fire basket or fire register. The fire insert has a slightly curved shape and the inner edge is designed to fit into the fire cavity with the outer edge standing out slightly from the wall. The insert has a very handsome design with an intricate leaf and branch design that forms delicate diamond shapes in brass on a grey / black background. The design is framed by pretty brass borders. The brass is part polished and has a lovely colour. The insert has a metal spacer bar across the front of the fire opening. The insert is in very good useable condition but has some slight signs of age, as expected of antique items. The brass has some light tarnish that may benefit from further cleaning and there are some light scratches and signs of use. There is some surface rust to the metal spacing bar. The fire insert is a very special and unusual item with a beautiful appearance. Its size makes it ideal for a living or dining room and would be a real showpiece within a home.
