An attractive, late Georgian, cast iron fire insert with curved fire cheeks and removeable fire fender. The fire is very prettily decorated with a large central design featuring swags and a pretty circular motif. The fire fender has a shaped edge and smoke holes and sits within the fire cheeks. The iron has been blacked and polished giving the fire a rich finish. The insert is placed inside the fire cavity and the curved fire cheeks are designed to stand away from the wall. A fire register or basket is placed inside the fire opening. The insert is antique and therefore has some slight signs of use and wear. There are some small marks, scratches and pitting. The back and top have surface rust. One of the metal points at the back of the insert top has broken off. A beautiful and interesting fire insert with a great deal of character, ideal for a period home.
