FI0040 PRETTY EARLY VICTORIAN CAST IRON HORSESHOE FIRE INSERT

SOLD

Code: FI0040

Dimensions:

W: 86.4cm (34")H: 91.5cm (36")

A very attractive large cast iron fire insert dating to the early Victorian period. The fire is a deep horseshoe shape and has a large arched opening which is finely decorated with repeating borders. The smoke flap has a pretty leaf design. The fire has the original curved and decorative front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished to give an attractive finish. There is a registered design kite mark on the back of the fire. The mark is faded and cant be read but the fire dates to pre 1884 when the dating system changed. The insert is designed to fit into the wall cavity and can be finished with a fire surround. The fire is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of age and wear. The concrete fire back has been broken and has a brace around it. There are some light marks and scratches due to age. The back and grill have surface rust as expected. The fire is a fantastic example of Victorian design and is of a good size for a living or dining room. A very pretty and desirable piece that would add great character to a home.
