FC0061 PETITE DECORATIVE CAST IRON VICTORIAN COMBINATION FIRE

SOLD

Code: FC0061

Dimensions:

W: 63cm (24.8")H: 92cm (36.2")

A very pretty, petite, cast iron, Victorian combination fireplace. The fire is the perfect size for a bedroom or smaller reception room. The fire has a very pretty domed smoke hood with a leaf design. The cross bar and legs have very ornate, Adam style, flower, urn and swag detailing, in a design typical of the era. The smoke flap has a decorative pattern and the fire has the original shaped front bars and both fixing lugs. The back has a 5 digit Registered Design number that is now unreadable but dates the fire to between 1884 and 1888 when the RD numbers became 6 digits. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a rich colour and nice finish. The fire is in very good condition but does have some slight damage and signs of wear consistent with age. The back has surface rust as expected. There is a surface crack on the left hand side (when facing it) but this does not affect the structural integrity of the fire. There are some marks and scratches. There was some slight damage to the area of the fire which meets the smoke flap. This has been repaired so the top flap sits well at the back of the fire but the repair is visible. There are some thin surface cracks to the concrete fire back. Suitable for a bedroom and ideal for a period property, the fire is a very desirable item. A fine example of Victorian design.
