FI0041 DECORATIVE EARLY / MID VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE INSERT

SOLD

Code: FI0041

Dimensions:

W: 76.2cm (30")H: 91.5cm (36")

A very attractive large cast iron fire insert dating to the early/mid Victorian period. The fire has a large arched opening which is finely decorated with repeating borders and the smoke flap has a pretty scroll design. The fire has the original curved front bars and the concrete fire back has a fan design. The iron has been blacked and polished to give an attractive finish. There is a registered design kite mark on the back of the fire. The mark is faded and can't be read but the fire dates to pre 1884 when the dating system changed. The insert is designed to fit into the wall cavity and can be finished with a fire surround. The fire is in good reclaimed condition with some slight signs of age and wear. The concrete fire back has some surface cracks. There are some light marks, knocks and scratches due to age. The back and grill have surface rust as expected. The fire is a fantastic example of Victorian design and is of a good size for a living or dining room. A very pretty and desirable piece that would add great character to a home.
