FC0080 ORNATE RECLAIMED ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CAST IRON COMBINATION FIRE

SOLD

Code: FC0080

A very ornate reclaimed Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire is solid and heavy and of an ideal size for a reception room or larger bedroom. The fire has a very elaborate design with Adam style urns in each corner and scrolling detailing on the crossbar. The fire has a very attractive canopy smoke hood with a pretty bird motif. The legs have fine border detailing and the original, shaped, front bars are present. There are fixing lugs on each side for attaching the fire to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire has a registered design number on the back but it is now unreadable. The fire is likely to be from the late Victorian period. The fire is antique and does have some repaired damage and signs of use. There has been a repaired break under the mantel, near the fixing lug. The repair is well done but it can be seen slightly when looking under the mantel and the fixing plate is visible at the back of the fire. The fire brick has some cracks and damage and has been cemented in. The top plate is a replacement and has some gaps between it and the fire. The fire may be best suited to decorative use. There are some small scratches and casting marks. The back has surface rust as expected. The fire is a very fine example of Victorian design and it is unusual to find such an attractive and decorative item. The fire is perfect for adding character to a period home.
