A pretty, antique, reclaimed cast iron combination fireplace likely to date to the late Victorian period. The fire is of an ideal size for a bedroom or smaller reception room and suited for occasional use or for decorative purposes. The fire has a classic design with a canopy smoke hood. The fire opening is surrounded by fine mouldings, patterned ball detailing and there is a repeating border under the mantel. The original front bars with decorative finials are present and there is an ashpan cover. There are 2 fixing lugs for attaching the fire to the wall. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire is reclaimed and therefore has had some repairs and signs of age and use. The back has surface rust as expected. There are some casting marks, lines and pitting and some small scratches and knocks. The concrete fire back has had extensive repairs and therefore the fire is suited for occasional use. The fire back is secure and is held with a strap and filler. One fixing lug is missing from the front bars but they do stay with the one existing lug. The fire has an attractive appearance and is a fine example of period design.
