FS0114 A DECORATIVE VICTORIAN CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND WITH OAK TOP

SOLD

Code: FS0114

Dimensions:

W: 118.5cm (46.7")H: 110cm (43.3")

A very pretty late Victorian cast iron fire surround with an attractive oak mantel. The fire is very ornate with a large central design featuring scrolling details and acanthus leaves. The legs have a column detail with flowers and leaves at the base. The iron has been blacked and polished and there are 2 fixing lugs for attaching the fire to the wall. The original damaged mantel has been replaced with a beautiful waxed oak mantel. The fire surround is ideal for pairing with a fire basket or for decorative purposes. The oak mantel has an attractive grain and is a solid and quality piece of timber. The pairing of cast iron with oak gives the fire a unique and interesting look that would fit with period, country or rustic properties. The fire is in very good condition but does have some signs of use and a small amount of damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. There is a crack on the left-hand side under the mantel but the fire is structurally stable. There are a few small knocks and marks to the mantel and fire. There are some light scratches and casting marks. The back has surface rust as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is an interesting and beautiful item that would add great character to a home.
