A very finely carved Victorian, Gothic style, Arts and Crafts dragon corbel dating to C.1895. The corbel is made from a single piece of lime wood and has intricate carving and detailing. The corbel features two dragons facing each other with a wing on either side. The top of the corbel has Gothic trefoils and a carved mantel edge and the base, attractive domed detailing. The wood has been cleaned, waxed and polished and has a rich colour and finish. The corbel currently has a hook attached to the back and so can be hung on the wall. The corbel is in good reclaimed condition but does have some signs of wear, as expected of antique items. There are some slight knocks and scuffs. Both of the dragons ears have been repaired. There are some very small holes from where it was originally fitted and there is a small gouge in the wood at the back which will not be seen if mounted to a wall. There are some small knocks and chips to to the edges. The corbel is very well made and is an attractive, rare and interesting item that would make a fantastic wall mounted decorative piece.
