FS0122 PRETTY RECLAIMED ANTIQUE CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND FOR WOODBURNER

SOLD

Code: FS0122

Dimensions:

W: 126.7cm (49.9")H: 125cm (49.2")

A very pretty reclaimed cast iron fire surround that is likely to be late Victorian or early Edwardian, C.1900. The fire has a fantastic design, typical of the era, with a ribbon style border around the fire opening and small flowers in the corners. The legs have a column style and they have a rounded edge. The crossbar has a simple design and the mantel is very large and heavy. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a very fine finish. The fire has a fixing lug on each side under the mantel and at the base of the legs and there are two at the back of the mantel for fitting into the wall. The surround is of a perfect size for a living or dining room and can be paired with a wood burner or fire basket or it could be used for decorative purposes. The fire is a reclaimed antique and has some slight wear and signs of age. There are some scratches, casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel. There is a small hole and scratch to the mantel edge. Some small scuffs and knocks can be seen. There are some slightly sharp edges to the inside edge of the fire feet. The back of the fire has surface rust as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a very pretty style that would be suited to both period and modern properties and is of a good size, ideal for adding character and charm to a home.
