A very pretty antique cast iron fire insert / hobgrate that is paired with a Georgian style, carved pine, fire surround. The hobgrate pre-dates 1842 and has Georgian bolts and so likely dates to the late Georgian period or very early Victorian period. The insert is ornate with beautiful acanthus leaf designs around the arched opening. The leaves appear at the back of the fire, above the concrete back and there are delicate grape designs down the legs. The hobgrate has the traditional warming plates on either side of the fire opening that were used for cups or small pans. The hobgrate has the original front bars with a pretty flower at their base. The insert is paired with a reclaimed vintage, Georgian style, pine carved fire surround. The surround has flower corbels and a reeded design down the legs and along the crossbar. The pine has been waxed and polished. The fire is of an ideal size for a living or dining room. The fire is in very good condition but does have some slight signs of use and some repairs due to the inserts considerable age. The surround has a knock to the front edge of the mantel and there are some scratches and marks. The cast iron insert / hobgrate has some casting marks and scratches and there is a small notch missing from the edge of one side but this will not be noticeable when installed. The back has had some replacements and repairs due to damage and age and the concrete back is likely to be a replacement. The back of the fire has surface rust as expected. One of the metal fixing loops attached to the surround is broken. The surround and insert have a very pretty look and are ideal for adding period charm to a home.
