An elegant reclaimed, original, English mid-Victorian Carrara marble fire surround. The surround has a classic design with simple detailing at the top of the legs and to the feet. The marble is of a good quality and has the attractive blue-grey veins that Carrara marble is famous for. The fire is of a good size for a living or dining room and is ideal for surrounding a cast iron insert or fire basket within a hearth. The fire has a slate packer that sits behind the cross bar when installed and the fire opening width can be adjusted slightly, to suit, before the fire is fixed to the wall. The surround is complete but comes in separate pieces and will need to be fixed to the wall by a qualified builder. The fire is in good antique condition, with no major breaks or cracks, however there are some signs of use and slight damage, as expected. There are some knocks and chips, especially to the back of the mantel and the sides of the legs. Some slight staining from smoke can be seen under the mantel. There are some scratches and marks to the marble. The backs of the legs and feet have some damage but this wont show once the fire is installed. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has a lovely appearance and its classic design makes it suited to both period and modern homes. A fantastic Victorian item that would add great character to a home.
