FI0047 RECLAIMED PRETTY ANTIQUE CAST IRON TILED FIRE INSERT

SOLD

Code: FI0047

Dimensions:

W: 91.5cm (36")H: 96.5cm (38")

A handsome, antique, reclaimed cast iron tiled fire insert with built in fire brick. The fire is of a good size, ideal for use in a living or dining room, and is believed to be from the late Victorian or early Edwardian era. The fire has a very attractive design, typical of the era, with Adam style swags, bows and flower motifs. The fire has heavily decorated borders along the outside edges and around the fire opening. The fire retains its original, shaped, front bars and ash pan cover and there is a stool for burning logs or coal. The fire has pretty tiles with a flower design in green and yellow, on each side of the fire opening. There is a green border tile at the top and bottom of the flower designs. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire is in good condition but has some signs of wear and age, as expected of antique items. The fire has some slight tarnish and very light patches of surface rust. There are some small chips, marks and knocks to the tiles and one top green tile is secure but slightly out of alignment. The tile enamel has some crazing. The top plate has been lost and is replaced with a modern thin metal plate with wooden handle. The back has surface rust, as expected. The fire is a wonderful example of period design and it would add great character and charm to a home.
