M1443 A SET OF 4 EARLY EDWARDIAN CARVED OAK CHAIRS

SOLD

Code: M1443

A set of four elaborately carved Early Edwardian oak dining chairs. The chairs, dating to C. 1900-1910, have a very pretty design with acanthus leaves and a shell style motif on the back rest. The chairs have scrolling finials and there is a delicate border to the sides of the back rest. The chairs have decorative turned front legs with recessed channels. The oak has been waxed or varnished and has a deep colour. The original reed seats have been replaced, perhaps due to damage, and have been replaced with ply, ready for seat cushions to be added by purchaser. The chairs are solid and useable and ideal for a dining room or kitchen table. The chairs are antique and therefore have some slight signs of use and wear. The wax or varnish has faded in some areas and there are some scratches. There are some knocks and chips to some of the chairs, especially to the edges and to the edges of the ply seating. The chairs have a very elegant appearance and are a fine example of Edwardian design.
